Green Projects
Ontario continues to face electricity supply constraints, with nearly 80 percent of the province’s existing capacity needing replacement in the next 20 years. Conservation efforts have helped and will continue to make an important contribution but more effort is needed.

As part of the long-term plan to meet this challenge, the amount of electricity generated from renewable energy sources – wind power, waterpower, solar photovoltaic (PV) installations and biomass energy from agricultural and waste material – is expected to double by 2025.

TH Energy actively participates in funding programs offered by the provincial government to help develop renewable green projects that help minimize environmental impact and meet Ontario’s supply constraints.

TH Energy will design and build renewable green projects. The following are project currently in process and/or completed:

Ashbridges Bay
  • 10MW biogas co-generation plant located at the Ashbridges Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • Biogas fuel is available from the digester process which provides methane for the cogeneration plant. The cogeneration plant will convert the methane into electricity and heat to be used by the facility.
  • We are currently in the development stage undertaking engineering design, planning and permitting as part of the competitive Ontario Power Authority’s Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (OPA RESOP) process.
  • Community and stakeholder presentations are underway
Green Lane
  • 5-10MW biogas co-generation plant located at the Green Lane landfill near St. Thomas, Ontario.
  • Biogas fuel is available from the landfill gas collection system which provides methane for the cogeneration plant. The co-generation plant will convert the methane into electricity and heat to be used by local industry.
  • We are currently in the development stage undertaking engineering design, planning and permitting as part of the competitive Ontario Power Authority’s Renewable Energy Standard Offer Program (OPA RESOP) process.
  • Community and stakeholder presentations are underway
  • Project is a joint development with Ontario Plants Propagation Limited
Wind Turbine Generator - View Case Study
  • 750kW generator produces enough power for 200 homes
  • Exhibition Place is the home of the 1st urban wind turbine in North America
  • This was a partnership between TH Energy and WindShare Co-operative
Solar Photovoltaic - View Case Study
  • 190 solar panels generating 36kW of renewable electricity reducing 37.8 tonnes of C02 annually.
  • TH Energy provided engineering design, project management and implementation of the pilot solar power installation at a Toronto Hydro building. The solar panels provide 12 per cent of the electrical power required to run the building’s electricity.
